Sri Lankan Community in London felicitates High Commissioner Kshenuka Senewiratne

The Sri Lankan community organisations in the UK under the direction of the Sri Lanka Educational, Cultural and Welfare Foundation felicitated High Commissioner Kshenuka Senewiratne with the award of the title “Deshabhimani Seva Bhusana” on the completion of her tour of duty as High Commissioner in the UK. The award was conferred on the occasion of the Sri Lanka New Year celebration attended by over 5000 members of the Sri Lankan diaspora.

The award was presented to the High Commissioner by the Ven Galayaye Piyadassi Maha Thero, Chief Sangha Nayake of Great Britain in the presence of the Hon Maithripala Sirisean, Minister of Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services. Several British parliamentarians including the Mayors of the Boroughs of Harrow, Brent and Barnet also graced the occasion.

A Sri Lankan toddler in UK has died after a television apparently toppled over and fell on him. The one-year-old boy from Swansea, was named by the local Evening Post newspaper as Ghazi Riyaz Mohammed. The Colombo District Court remanded a British constructor who built the recently opened British High Commission at Buller’s Road, Colombo for allegedly defrauding a local sub-contractor by failing to make payments of over Rs. 18 million.

Colombo District Judge Sisira Ratnayake remanded Graham A. Gardner who had been arrested at his apartment at Barnes Residencies, Colombo-07 on a civil warrant.
