11-04-2008

Salcon Bhds joint-venture company has secured a conditional letter of acceptance from the Sri Lankan Government to build a water treatment plant costing 44.6mil euros.

The plant, which can process 180,000 cubic metres a day (or 40 million gallons per day), will be constructed in Ambatale in the western province of Sri Lanka, Salcon said on Friday.

Work on the project will start within 42 days from the signing of the loan agreement between the Nordea Bank, Denmark AS, which is the funding agency, and Sri Lankas Finance Ministry. It is expected to be completed in two years.

The project is funded by Danish International Development Agency which promotes sustainable economic growth and development of the social sectors in developing countries.

Salcons portion of works is 40% of the total contract value, that is about 44.6 million, which comprises the design and construction of a process plant.
