Perera in Colombo 25-03-2008 The first phase of the new flyover at Kelani railway crossing officially opend by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa. This is the first time a flyover is constructed within 60 days in the world. Earlier Philippines government built a flyover know as “Malos” flyover in 66 days. But Sri Lankan government broke that record by building a flyover in 60 days. The traffic congestion will be eased in Colombo-Kandy road through this flyover. The railway crossing will be closed for eight hours every day. The Railway Crontro Room said around 50 thousand vehicle transport are delayed due to this closure. The length of this bridge is 325 meters. Under the first phase the bridge has two sub lanes. Under the second phase it is expected to build two more lanes of this nature.
