A Minor explosion has occurred near the railway track close to the Mount Laviniya railway in Colombo this evening (7 January) around 8.00 PM sources said.
No casualties were reported in the incident while minor damages for the railway track, police sources said.
Mount Lavinia Police is conducting further investigations.

The Maharaja Broadcasting Corporation has decided to grant Rs. 5 million to any information on the suspects of yesterday's attack on their station complex at Depanama in Pannipitiya.
A special telephone number, 0714-455444 has been allocated for people to call in. The company has promised to keep the identity of the callers confidential.

A 79-year-old Sri Lankan grandmother won an 11th-hour reprieve from deportation so she can continue to help her daughter and family devastated by the murder of her 16-year-old grandson in Brampton.

LTTE has threatened civilians in the areas still held by it with death as traitors if any attempt made to flee. To prove they are serious of this threat they have displayed bodies of 3 civilians near the Ponnambalam hospital. The bodies were hanged on posts that had banners stating "Fate of traitors', according to civilians, who have managed to escape and are now in IDP welfare centers at Vavuniya and Welioya .

The impending Sri Lanka cricket tour of Pakistan will be pruned down from 3 tests 5 ODIs and a T20 to 2 tests 3 ODIs and a T20. This was done as a result of the Lankan players seeking a week’s break between their current Bangladesh Tour and the hastily confirmed Pakistan Tour. The MTV/MBC (Sirasa) studio complex at Depanama Pannipitiya has been attacked and damaged by an unidientified gang in the early hours of today, Police said.
Between 15 to 20 armed men had arrived around 2.30 a.m. and held the staff at gun point as some of the gang members stormed the main control room and lobbed hand grenades into the complex.
Extensive damage has been caused to the computers, studios, and the building.

Breaks in submarine cables which link Europe and the Middle East disrupted Internet and international telephone services in parts of the Middle East and South Asia, officials said.
