Sri Lanka implements a programme for the members of the families of gallant soldiers 12-05-2008
The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence, Law and Order implements a special programme for the members of the families of gallant soldiers facing economic difficulties.
The unit has set up a Ranaviru Fund to assist to construct houses for disabled soldiers and members of soldiers died in action and also for their welfare activities.
President of the Seva Vanitha Unit Ayoma Rajapakse says a musical concert by the name “Virudana Gee Sara” will be conducted at the BMICH on the 26th of this month to collect aid for the fund.
Senior Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Indu Rathnayake says a special credit scheme is also being implemented for ranaviru families. He further points out that more than 600 members in ranaviru families have obtained loans subjected to a maximum of 300 thousand rupees through the programme.
Meanwhile the British High Commission in Sri Lanka begins a lottery to strengthen the “Api Venuwen Api Fund.
This fund is being utilized to construct houses for the disabled soldiers. The High Commission will implement this lottery with the aim of raising one hundred thousand Sterling Pounds.
A housing scheme is being constructed in Ipologama for the soldiers in Anuradhapura by the British High Commission at present. Another is to be set up in Horowpathana area shortly.
