Released Fishermen are scheduled to arrive in the island

Forty five fishermen who were taken into custody by the Indian coastguards and released later on, are scheduled to arrive in the island tomorrow.

They were engaged in fishing in six fishing boats. Another batch of 15 fishermen taken into custody by Indian coastguards will rive in the island on the 15th of this month with their fishing trawlers.

They were taken into custody for violating sea boarder limits. Minister Filix Perera has mediated with the office of Sri Lankan High commission in Chennai to release these fishermen.

The Minister further said the fishermen should take special care not to violate borders while engage in fishing.

Police reveal that the motorcycle of the suicide bomber involved in yesterday’s (May 16th) bomb explosion near the Colombo Hilton Hotel belongs to a associate of Pillayan named ‘Jana’.

A police team in Trincomalee has arrested him under the suspicion last evening.Jana, resident of Palauththu in Trincomalee, is a prominent Tamil member of the TMVP and is currently engaged with a Muslim girl, a senior police officer said.

Mt.Lavinia Magistrate Harsha Setunge yesterday issued an order preventing the erection of a Vesak pandal on Dehiwela Station Road on an application made by Dehiwala Police.

Police made the application citing the "Public Nuisance" Laws.The Magistrate allowing the application prohibited any construction taking place at Station Road’s ‘Vesak Zone’.
