Fake bomb, control-blasted at Sri Pada 08-05-2008
A bomb disposal squad from Maussakelle Army camp control-blasted what was said to be an unattended parcel which had caused fear and panic among hundreds of devotees\' pilgriming Sri Pada yesterday evening (May 7) in Rathnapura.
According to Nalathanni Police sources, the Chief Incumbent at Sri Pada Ven. Dampahala Seelananda Thera had immediately noticed the Police after a suspicious box was detected by a labour, left on a roof of a public lavatory at the Vihara premises.
On information, the Nallathanni Police and Army have rushed to the scene and immediately laid a combined cordon in the area and later it was ascertained the parcel contained nothing dangerous except two battery cells.
Thus the public is been urged to keep constant alertness of the surroundings while assisting security forces to avert every possible terrorist attempt to disturb normalcy.

An LTTE air craft was detected by the air defence system yesterday evening over the LTTE built Iranamadu runway, military sources said.
A senior Air Force official told media that the air defence system had detected the LTTE aircraft soon after, it was airborne. “However it immediately disappeared from the radar system, as it went down,” the official said.

Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan was sworn-in as the Chief Minister for the Eastern Province before President Mahinda Rajapaksa this evening.
Three other provincial councilors also took their oaths, as cabinet of ministers despite M.L.A.M Hisbullah was absent. They are T.Navaratnarajah, Wimalaweera Dissanayake and M.Uduma .
