2 LTTE bunkers destroyed: 17AP mines found in Mannar 05-05-2008
17 anti-personnel (AP) mines laid by LTTE were found by troops yesterday (May 4), while conducting search operations in general areas at Nedunkandal and Pulliyankulama, Mannar, security sources said.
Meanwhile, 2 LTTE bunkers were reported destroyed and heavy damages inflicted to LTTE when troops forced into LTTE defences in general area Manthai, at 4.p.m. The offensive thrust was led by Army infantrymen who were backed by heavy artillery and mortar fire mounted towards identified LTTE positions ahead of the defences, security sources further added.

Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan was sworn-in as the Chief Minister for the Eastern Province before President Mahinda Rajapaksa this evening.
Three other provincial councilors also took their oaths, as cabinet of ministers despite M.L.A.M Hisbullah was absent. They are T.Navaratnarajah, Wimalaweera Dissanayake and M.Uduma .

Extensive investigations are now being held on the suicide bomb attack occurred at Colombo Fort this morning.

Hours before the installation of Pillayan as the Chief Minister of the East M.L.A.M Hizbullah along with two other elected Muslim members from Batticaloa to the Eastern Provincial Council have informed the Governor-East that they would not support Pillayan in the council and would function as a separate group.
