33 LTTE killed in clashes at Wanni and Northern fronts 02-05-2008
Heavy fighting ensued between SLA and LTTE as troops claimed to have killed over 30 LTTE terrorists while injuring 14 others in the Wanni and Northern battle fronts. According to reports received, 9 other terrorists were either believed killed or wounded in the confrontations.
In the Jaffna front, a LTTE terrorist was reported killed by SLA snipers deployed in general area Kilaly.
It was reported that 11 LTTE terrorists were killed and 4 injured in the clashes in Vavuniya, in addition to 2 soldiers who have received injuries in the confrontations.
Meanwhile, in the Mannar front at Karukkakulam , Nedunkandal , 15 LTTE terrorists were reported killed and 7 wounded, said security sources. 3 soldiers have also received injuries during skirmishes with LTTE in general area Puliyan Kulam.
Also 6 LTTE terrorists were killed and 3 others wounded in the clashes in Welioya. Four soldiers were also injured in the same clashes, security sources said.

An LTTE air craft was detected by the air defence system yesterday evening over the LTTE built Iranamadu runway, military sources said.
A senior Air Force official told media that the air defence system had detected the LTTE aircraft soon after, it was airborne. “However it immediately disappeared from the radar system, as it went down,” the official said.

Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan was sworn-in as the Chief Minister for the Eastern Province before President Mahinda Rajapaksa this evening.
Three other provincial councilors also took their oaths, as cabinet of ministers despite M.L.A.M Hisbullah was absent. They are T.Navaratnarajah, Wimalaweera Dissanayake and M.Uduma .
