The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Thailand Professor J.B.Dissanayaka said to the BBC that about 300 Sri Lankans have contacted the embassy following the closure of main Bangkok airports. Anti government protesters have camped at the airports calling for the Prime Minster to resign. “We have contacted The Malaysian authorities and requested them to issue visa to stranded Sri Lankans as soon as possible” said Professor Dissanayaka . The Sri Lankans were in Thailand attending to business and official matters, the Ambassador said. Bangkok\'s main airport has been shut down by anti-government protestors since Tuesday. The police have clashed with demonstrators who slashed the tires of abandoned vehicles. The Thai government has ordered the police to clear the protestors, but the army has refused to back the government, fuelling rumours of a possible military coup. Bangkok\'s other main airport has also been closed and about one hundred-thousand passengers are reported to be stranded in the city. A state of emergency has been declared at both Suvarnabhumi and the smaller, domestic Don Mueang airport, which the anti-government People\'s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) have taken over.
