VOTE FOR SRI LANKA SINHARAJA FOREST TO BE SELECTED AS ONE OF SEVEN WONDERS OF NATURE

Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Patali Champika Ranawaka has appealed to all environment –friendly people to cast their votes via internet for Sinharaja Forest, which has been considered as Global Heritage to be selected as one of seven wonders in the world.

Votes could be exercised via www.new7wonders.com. One person could cast seven votes but for one monument of nature.

21 finalists will be selected by voting throughout the year upto 2009 and 07 wonders of world will be selected in 2010 among the finalists.

A four-day Sri Lankan film festival, to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka, opened at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce auditorium here on Monday.

The 550 Jathaka Stories of Buddhist Literature can now be viewed on the internet.

A ceremony was held at temple trees on Thursday under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapakse to upload these stories to the internet. Accordingly the stories can be accessed in the Sinhala language on the website www.jathakakatha.org.

The police are investigating an allegation that the Colombo Medical Faculty released nearly 200 medical exhibits to a private party to hold an exhibition. Medical sources said the transaction had come to light after the Chilaw police took into custody the main suspect who initially insisted on his right to go ahead with the exhibition.
