SriLankan Airlines to fly to Rome
19-11-2008

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka, is all set to expand its presence in Europe by resuming flight operations from Colombo to Rome from next month.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Manager, Kerala, Samantha Nagahawatte said Rome would be the fourth European destination to which the airline operates its own flights.

“The flights to Rome will resume in December and the exact date will be announced soon,” Mr. Nagahawatte said. The airline operates flights to London, Paris and Frankfurt and offers flights to other European destinations through code-sharing with other airlines.

The island nation’s national carrier had been reworking its flight schedules over the last few months. “We have added more flights to some destinations depending on the need and had reduced the number of flights to a few destinations’, the airline official said. Mr. Nagahawatte said the airline has already launched an SMS alert to keep passengers informed of the flight updates. The passengers who provide their mobile phones at the time of booking the tickets will automatically get the updates. Even passengers from overseas, who have the roaming facility, will receive the message if they provide the country code and the cell numbers to the airline.

SriLankan Holidays, the leisure arm of the airline, has also come up with holiday packages to attract Indian citizens to the island nation during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

The fares from Thiruvananthapuram for the holiday packages ‘Kids Go Free’, ‘Best of Sri Lanka’, “X’mas in Colombo’, ‘New Year in Colombo’ and Experience Sri Lanka’ commence from Rs. 13,399. The offer for children is valid from the three cities of the state, Trichurapalli, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
