Tamil businessman shot dead by LTTE gunmen- Jaffna 13-05-2008
Alleged LTTE gunmen shot and killed a Tamil businessman, owner of a communication center at Pothapady Road in Kokuvil East, Jaffna yesterday (May 12) evening.
The victim identified as Mahendran Paramanathan, 36, was shot by alleged LTTE gunmen who stormed into his communication store at around 7.p.m. The gunmen were on motor bikes and have immediately fled the area, Jaffna Police said citing witnesses.
According to relatives Mr. Paramanathan sustained severe gunshot wounds and succumbed to injuries after been rushed to the Teaching Hospital in Jaffna. LTTE operatives are alleged to have increased extortions from Tamil businessmen discretely through intimidations as reported by Police sources.
Earlier, on 9th May LTTE gunmen similarly shot dead a Tamil businessman in general area Nallur at Kopay in Jaffna, as he was said to have refused paying ransom to the terrorist operatives.
