Leveraging GCC Transformation to Sri Lanka’s Advantage and Opportunities Sunil C. Perera 26-03-2008
At the invitation of the Chamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka, Mr. R. Seetharaman, Chief Executive Officer of Doha Bank will make a presentation on “Leveraging GCC Transformation to Sri Lanka’s Advantage and Opportunities for Sri Lankans” at a meeting to be held on 28th March 2008 at Hilton Colombo Residence. The meeting will be held under the distinguished patronage of Prof. G.L. Peiris, Minister of Export Development and International Trade who will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
Mr. Seetharaman was conferred by Dominique de Villepin, Former Prime Minister of France, as the “Best CEO in Middle East Banking Industry 2008” by the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute at the 5th Leading CEO Summit in recognition of his valuable contributions to the Banking industry in the Middle East, held on 19th March 2008 in Dubai. Mr. Seetharaman was also adjudged as the “Banker of the Year” at the 2007 Banker Middle East Industry awards in recognition of his valuable contributions to the Banking industry in the Middle East, held on 16th May 2007 in Doha.
Mr. Seetharaman, earlier in 2006 was conferred the “Arab Asian Banker Excellence Award - 2006” at the Annual Arab Asian Forum in Singapore in September 2006.
Mr. Seetharaman is credited with transforming Doha Bank into the best performing bank in the Middle East region over five years. During his stewardship Doha Bank has become a Global Brand.
Mr. Seetharaman has extensive experience in integrating people, processes, technology and re-engineering. He has excelled in handling multi-dimensional functions within the banking sector and has been responsible for two successful mergers. Prior to joining Doha Bank in 2002, Mr. Seetharaman held senior management positions in three banks in Oman, handling all domains in banking. He started his professional career at one of the global consultancy firms, Price Waterhouse & Associates before moving to the banking sector.
Mr. Seetharaman is also very active in promoting economic cooperation and cross border investment opportunities between the GCC and other regions across the globe.
Mr. Dakshitha Thalgodapitiya, CEO/Secretary General of the Chamber added that this occasion will be used to felicitate founder president of the Chamber Archt./Plnr. Deshabandu Surath Wickramasinghe who was bestowed the Gold Award by the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects.
In view of CCI being identified as the focal point for promotion of export of construction related professional services with a highly successful pioneering mission to the State of Qatar in November 2007 and a follow up mission in February 2008, the visit of Mr. Seetharaman is of immense significance to his Chamber and the construction industry in Sri Lanka. The alliance with Doha Bank will also facilitate GCC investment in infrastructure and construction related projects in Sri Lanka.
