There had been several minor clashes near fuel sheds and at certain places police had to be deployed to control the crowd. Despite the Minister of Petroleum & Petroleum Resources Development A.H.M. Fowzie stating over the media that fuel was available in outlets the public became aware that there was no fuel only when they went to the fuel sheds. At certain fuel sheds vehicle owners had to wait in queues for hours to get fuel.  
The CPC trade unions state the fuel shortage caused by the ‘work to rule’ campaign they carried out from the 22nd ended at midnight yesterday (25th) but the shortage would continue until today (26th) evening. 
Trade union leaders say they had to resort to trade union action as the authorities had not taken measures to grant the 33% increment the employees should get from January, 2009. Despite there was a statement that President Mahinda Rajapakse would grant them a discussion today (26th) they have not received any official notice of this discussion until yesterday (25th) evening said trade union leaders.  
If the government does not take measures to grant their salary increment soon a continuous trade union action would be taken jointly with trade unions of Ceylon Electricity Board, Port Authority and National Water Supply and Drainage Board stated the Alliance of Petroleum Trade Unions.
