NEM HIR Has Received 98 Election Complaints
Written by CNS
According to the announcement large scale violations of the rule on election propaganda are taking place while posters, banners and cutouts are displayed at public places. The police have not taken any necessary effort to remove them points out NEM HIR.
Posters and stickers with photographs and preferential numbers of UPFA candidates have been fixed on CTB as well as private buses. Vehicles with photographs and preferential number of candidates are driven throughout the island without the candidates being driven in them which is an election offence though police look the other way when they see such a vehicle. The Colombo – Kandy road from Kadawatha to Peliyagoda has been decorated with large blue flags.
As a result of contest for preferential votes clashes between candidates of the same party have escalated while an abduction of a person has been reported from Vavuniya. As there are indications that election violence would reach an unmanageable level towards the election the police and the government, without any partiality, should mediate in minimizing violence points out NEM HIR.
